Novelty vs genuine documents
A straightforward comparison so that customers, trainers and production teams never confuse a fictional design with a real record.
The value of a novelty document lies in its visual realism combined with its unambiguous fictional status. Understanding the differences protects everyone involved.
Genuine documents
- Issued by a real bank, employer, utility provider, tax authority or other official body
- Contain real personal, financial or account data belonging to a living person or organisation
- Can be used (when authentic) as evidence of identity, address, income, employment or tax status
- Are subject to strict data-protection and anti-fraud rules
Novelty designs from FakeUtilities
- Created as illustrative layouts for legitimate creative, educational or technical projects
- Use only invented names, addresses, account numbers, figures and references
- Carry permanent fictional-use markings that must not be removed
- Have no legal, financial or official standing of any kind
- Must never be presented as proof of anything in the real world
Why the distinction must stay obvious
If a novelty design could reasonably be mistaken for a genuine record, it ceases to be a safe training or prop tool and becomes a risk. That is why every design we supply is labelled, why the order process requires a legitimate project use, and why we decline requests that appear to seek verification material.
Practical test
Before using any design, ask: “Would a reasonable third party understand that this is fictional?” If there is any doubt, do not use it for that purpose. Contact us if you need guidance.
